Air France was founded in 1933 and is the flag carrier of France. It was founded by merging Air Orient, Air Union, Compagnie Generale Aeropostale, Compagnie Internationale de Navigation Aérienne and Societe Generale de Transport Aérien.

The airline has been the main national flag carrier for seven decades until its merger with KLM in 2003. The airline's domestic hub is Orly Airport and the international hub is at Charles de Gaulle Airport. The airline flies to 29 domestic and 201 international destinations in 78 countries. The airline is a founding member of the SkyTeam global airline alliance. In 2003 the airline merged with Netherlands-based KLM Royal Dutch airline and formed a new company Air France - KLM. 

The airline’s shareholders have 81% stakes in the new company and the rest are owned by former KLM stakeholders.

Air France operates a combination of Airbus and Boeing wide-body aircraft in its fleet. The fleet comprises Airbus A220, Airbus A318, Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Airbus A321, Airbus A350, Embraer, Boeing 787 Dreamliner, Airbus A330 and Boeing 777. 

The airline uses a ‘Eurowhite’ scheme for its livery which consists of a white fuselage and a series of red and blue lines across the tail at an angle and a small European flag at the top. Modern aircraft are fuel-efficient and produce less CO2 emission and noise. For long-haul flights, the airline offers four classes of travel and for short and medium-haul flights the airline offers three classes of travel. 

All the cabins are fitted with personal screens with video-on-demand for long-haul flights.

• The Economy Class passengers can carry 0 - 2 pieces (23 kg each) of checked-in baggage depending on the fare type.

• Premium Economy can carry 0 - 2 pieces (23 kg each).

• The Business Class can carry 1 - 2 pieces of checked-in baggage (32 kg each).

• La Premiere can carry 3 pieces of checked-in baggage (32 kg each). 

• Economy Class passengers can carry a handbag and a personal item (total weight 12 kg). Premium Economy, Business and La Premier passengers can carry 2 pieces of handbag and 1 personal item (total weight18 kg).

Air France Check-in and Boarding Pass

Passengers can check in online through the airline’s website or the mobile app or at the airport through interactive kiosks. For online check-in, passengers can go to the ‘Check-in’ option and enter the booking reference and Flying Blue number. 

Passengers can select seats during the process. On successful online check-in, the boarding pass can be printed, sent to the smartphone or emailed. Online check-in is available 24 hours before the scheduled flight departure. At the airport, the checked-in baggage can be dropped off at the airline’s Bag Drop counter. Air France offers a Frequent Flyer program - Flying Blue. Passengers can earn miles by flying with the airline and availing the services of program partners like hotels, car rentals, banks and online boutiques.  The miles can be earned based on the Flying Blue level. Explorers can earn 4 miles per Euro spent, Silver members 6, Gold members 7 and Platinum members 8.
